The bold and courageous architect, Artacho Jurado, responsible for several iconic buildings in São Paulo, had three main passions: the city, architecture and classical music. This documentary investigates the man who freely mixed colours, shapes and textures, challenging the modernism that prevailed at the time, all set alongside the sounds of an expressive symphony.
A son of European immigrants, this self-taught architect built iconic, extravagant and luxurious buildings with spectacular features. Jurado began his career as a signer for posters, trade-fair stands and industrial exhibitions in the 1920s, and went on to work as an organiser of a series of public commemorative events, such as the Centennial of the City of Santos and the Bicentennial of Campinas exhibitions.
Jurado entered the real estate world in 1946, in partnership with his brother Aurelio and developed projects for neighbourhoods, houses, small buildings and villas. Each of Artacho’s projects seems to be thought of as a monumental landmark for the city, designed according to a very personal and particular aesthetic with which the architect-builder designed all his real estate developments.
