When Constance Adams, a world-renowned space architect, is diagnosed with terminal cancer, she doesn’t retreat from life—she accelerates into it. She reaches out to director Rebecca Carpenter, a former college classmate, to record what would become her final interview. She is determined to preserve her legacy, honour her collaborators and ensure her work lives on.
Over an enviable career, Adams devised elegant solutions for helping humans survive—and even thrive—in environments utterly hostile to life. From designing Mars habitats to reimagining deep space living quarters, her work merged technical rigour with human-centered design. Then, in a moment of clarity, she realised her work was not only for Mars—it was for Earth. As climate change makes our planet increasingly hostile, she saw how NASA’s methods and technologies could be adapted to protect human life here at home. But time was running out.
The film documents the life and work of a woman who was brilliant, bold, and often polarising in the engineering-dominated corridors of aerospace. It is also an intimate portrait of the cost of genius—balancing motherhood, including raising a neurodivergent daughter, with transforming elite scientific institutions from within. It’s about how a woman with one foot in the stars used her final days to root herself more deeply on Earth than ever before.
